You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Psychological Thriller/Suspense

Three words: Clever, Coincidental, Vengeance

Review: This is a tough one for me as I absolutely loved the authors’ previous two books, The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl. I think I may have perhaps set the bar a bit too high and expected more when I picked this one up to start reading. Their previous books were page turners for me and I kept wanting more and more, however, this one just didn’t have the same effect. With that being said, it was still a great read and cleverly written. Hendricks and Pekkanen impressed me once again with their intricately woven attention to detail in this story, resulting in me identifying with the main character, Shay, in her insecurities. Other characters, though, frustrated me and I would have really enjoyed a bit more character development overall. Although they do give backstories on each of the women in the larger group, I feel as though a few fell short and I started to get some of them confused. Overall I think this book was another really well thought out plot which included relatable, feasible, and identifiable details that make the everyday, mundane aspects of day to day living come to life. I also enjoyed the fact that yet again, something or someone that the reader should be rooting for or happy about (like friendships) turns menacing and insidious.

Summary: Shay is single, living in the city, rooming with a cute guy friend and looking for a permanent job. She is smart, seemingly savvy and with it. Until she suddenly isn’t. When looking from the outside, Cassandra and Jane Moore have it all. They are beautiful, successful and powerful. They help their friends, and as soon as they enter Shay’s life, things improve drastically. Their circle of friends vary from boutique owner, to lawyer, to computer whiz. Just like New York City is a melting pot, so is this group of friends. What could be wrong with that?
